The Aarhus Convention, adopted by the EU as early as 1998, recognized the right of every citizen to receive information held by public authorities on environmental policy-making.
The global influence of a regional agreement on public participation in environmental matters.
The Convention is based on the principle that the public had every right to participate in environmental decision-making of a state and communities enjoyed an inherent right to review procedural infirmities, if any, in the dispensation of environmental justice.
